In response to the request of the Regional Indigenous Organization of Casanare (ORIC), an extraordinary meeting was held led by Tatiana Chávez, health secretary of Casanare, with the participation of members of the ORIC, the Vector Transmitted Diseases (ETV) team. ) of the Ministry of Health, authorities of the Chaparral Barro Negro indigenous reservation, as well as representatives of the mayors of Hato Corozal, Sácama and Támara. Also present were Red Salud Casanare, Capresoca EPS, Ombudsman’s Office, Attorney’s Office and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare – ICBF.

The main objective of the meeting was to coordinate actions to address the situation of the malaria outbreak that affects the community of the Chaparral Barro Negro indigenous reservation, which already has 17 confirmed cases.

Among the concrete actions already implemented, the application of rapid tests in the community for the early detection of cases, the identification of breeding sites for the disease vector and the supply of awnings for the protection of families stand out.

In addition, chemical interventions have been carried out to control the Anopheles mosquito, which transmits malaria.

Dr. Chávez emphasized the importance of reinforcing the strategy to contain the outbreak and highlighted close collaboration with the indigenous community to ensure that measures are culturally appropriate and effective. In addition, she announced that the ETV team will continue to closely monitor the evolution of the situation, working hand in hand with the community of the indigenous reservation to mitigate the effects of the malaria outbreak and ensure the well-being of its inhabitants.
