In Antioquia, 223 scenarios at risk have been identified due to the rains

The monitoring and management of the 223 critical scenarios identified in the region have been intensified by the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area. These points present a high risk of natural phenomena such as mass movements, floods and torrential floods. So far this year, 70 of these sites have been inspected, which have a high or medium-high risk rating, especially vulnerable during the rainy seasons.

Luz Jeannette Mejía, leader of the Risk and Climate Change Management unit of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area, mentioned:

“Our technical team makes frequent visits to evaluate the evolution of risk conditions and to inform the competent authorities about critical situations that may endanger the lives of inhabitants.”

In addition to continuous monitoring, the Metropolitan Area implements preventive and corrective measures, including studies, execution of mitigation works, installation of monitoring systems and social work with surrounding communities.

So far, the rains have impacted 7,750 people in Antioquia, with 61 mass movement events recorded, mainly affecting the Western subregion. 15 municipalities, such as Montebello, Guarne, Chigorodó, Carepa and Ituango, have declared a public calamity.

Most of the critical points in the Aburrá Valley are located in the municipalities of Caldas, Copacabana, Bello, La Estrella and Barbosa.
