We all vibrate with Simba and the cast of lively characters that shaped the myth of ‘The Lion King’. After the fantastic remake last 2019, Disney insists on exploring other sides of the universe. In ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, the production company will delve into the origins of this jungle legend in the form of flashbacks that will be narrated to a very special new face. Its first trailer anticipates the epic that the real king lived. The film is scheduled to premiere on December 20.

Mufasa, from lost orphan to legend of the jungle

That unprecedented face is none other than Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. The little girl of the house will hear from Rafiki who her grandfather was and the indelible mark that she left in the jungle. “Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as a lonely and lost orphan until he is reunited with a lion named Taka, the heiress of a royal bloodline,” explains the producer in its official description.

This chance meeting will begin a journey in which “their bonds will be tested” while “evading a threatening and lethal rival.” Timon and Pumbaa will return to the big screen with the voices of Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, respectively. Aaron Pierre will do the same after Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr will play Taka. The performances are completed by Tiffany Boone (Sarabi), Kagiso Lediga (Rafiki as a young man), Preston Nyman (Zazu), Mads Mikkelsen (Kiros), Thandiwe Newton (Eshe) and Lennie James (Obasi), among others.

At the address you will find Barry Jenkins, filmmaker who managed to win the Oscar for Best Film of the year with ‘Moonlight’ (2016). He has subsequently worked on ‘The Beale Street Blues’ (2018), ‘The Gaze’ (2021 and ‘The Underground Railroad’ (2021). It is clear that Disney wanted a director established in international success to shape this beautiful prequel to the universe of ‘The Lion King’.
