For some time now they have been preparing a live-action film of the Disney animated classic, Hercules and now we know some details.
Even though a Hercules remake It may be a relatively simple story to adapt into live action, the project has been on hold for some time. The main reason is that they are trying to bring this beloved character to a modern audience and there are some questions about how to do it.
The director explains this very clearly. Joe Russoresponsible of Avengers: Endgame (2019) and other Marvel Studios films and that he will be in charge of producing the Hercules remake, as he revealed that they are currently waiting for a script and previously said: “There are questions about how to translate it as a musical. Today’s audience has been trained by TikTok, right? What are your expectations for what that musical looks and feels like? That can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit in how to execute a modern musical.”
So… what other movie can help this reboot?
Very soon a musical film will be released that will be a reboot of a classic story that we have seen many times in different formats. We are talking about Wicked (2024)the prequel to The Wizard of Oz, whose plot revolves around a green-skinned young woman who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.
Both Wicked and Hercules will be musicals that will try to convince new audiences addicted to Tik Tok and in fact, it has been speculated that the Disney remake could have Ariana Grande as Meg, the actress and singer who plays Glinda in the prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Therefore, if it hits the nail on the head and manages to be a success, this would cause the Hercules movie to accelerate and could arrive in the coming years, somewhat copying the strategy that Universal Pictures has used. However, if it fails it could cause a chain reaction that would seriously affect Hercules.
Wicked will premiere on December 25, 2024, it will be at that time when we will find out if viewers like it or not. Meanwhile, to see Hercules in real action there is still a long way to go. Luckily, you can always review the original animated film on Disney Plus, which is still very good and very fun.
