2023 was not just another year for superhero movies. After having established itself as a franchise synonymous with success with each delivery, Marvel Studios He saw two of his three projects shipwreck at the box office, with The Marvels’ audience failure being especially painful. Now, thanks to a Deadline investigation, we know how much the stumble cost disney.

Through a calculation that takes into account both income and expenses in various sections, including its distribution outside of movie theaters, Deadline estimates that The Marvels left losses worth $237 million. A nonsense that makes him be, in an unofficial way, the biggest fiasco of 2023. But it was not the only major blow to Disney’s interests during those 12 months.

The 5 biggest failures of 2023

Of the five biggest failures of 2023, four are from Disney, and from very different divisions. Only The Flash, from Warner Bros. & DC, makes the list:

  1. The Marvels (Marvel Studios): $237 million in losses
  2. The Flash (Warner Bros. & DC): $155 million in losses
  3. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Lucasfilm): $143 million in losses
  4. Wish: The Power of Wishes (Walt Disney Animation): $131 million in losses
  5. Haunted Mansion (Walt Disney Pictures): $117 million in losses

Of course, Disney will take a while to forget 2023. For superhero movies, in fact, at Marvel Studios they have wanted to take a break and we only have the premiere of Deadpool and Wolverine scheduled in theaters. By 2025, fans will be summoned to their nearest cinemas on more than one occasion. We leave you reading the spoiler-free review of The Marvels in 3DJuegos.
