This is the Science of Pixar, the interactive exhibition that reveals the secrets of its famous films

How do you create a Pixar character? How are their movements drawn? These are some of the questions answered by the new exhibition of CaixaForum Madrid, ‘The Science of Pixar’, an exhibition that invites the public to discover the technical challenges faced by the creators of the company’s most famous films and to learn how their protagonists are brought to life and even experiment, thanks to interaction, with the techniques they use Pixar designers. Created by the Museum of Science in Boston and Pixar Animation Studios, Pixar Science is divided into eight areas and with more than 800 square meters exhibition, shows how art and creativity go together with science and technology to develop computer animated films.

Thus, through the different sections, each step of the process that turns an idea into a film is explained in depth: modeling, which allows create 3D characters; rigging, with which virtual bones, muscles and joints are developed; he surface and decoration design; the animation, which brings the story to life; simulation, which provides automated movements; lighting, which achieves greater emotional impact, and rendering, which converts 3D scenes into two-dimensional images.

Ride a robot or take photos with Buzz Lightyear

The Science of Pixar is an exhibition designed so that the public can not only discover what is hidden behind Pixar films, but also interact through elements and audiovisuals and they can even build their own robot. ‘Toy Story’, ‘The Incredibles’, ‘Up!’, ‘Coco’, ‘Finding Nemo’ or ‘Brave’ are just some of the films that show their secrets and the public will also encounter characters like Buzz Lightyear (from Toy Story), Dory (from Finding Nemo), Mike and Sulley (from Monsters, SA), Edna Moda (from The Incredibles) and WALL•E (from the film of the same name) in life size.

During the months that the exhibition lasts, the “la Caixa” Foundation also develops different activitiesfrom the screening for young movie buffs of titles like ‘A Bug’s Life’, ‘Toy Story’ and ‘The Incredibles’, to commented visitsworkshop visits and even a family conference, which under the title ‘3D Animation: between art and science’, invites the public to understand how films are made.

Pixar’s Science can be visited at CaixaForum Madrid from May 7 Until 8 September and tickets cost six euros. The museum is located at Paseo del Prado, 36. The closest metro stop is Estación del Arte (M: L1) and is open from Monday to Sunday and holidays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
