Godzilla: Minus One‘ made history at the last Oscars, achieving new success for Japan in Hollywood, taking home the award for Best Visual Effects, a recognition of the impeccable work of Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima in creating surprising and immersive visual effects. With a tiny budget compared to other big Hollywood blockbusters, the project has managed to return interest in Toho’s monster outside the margins of Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Yamazaki, director of the film, continues to celebrate the success of ‘Minus One‘ and has shared the first sketch and conceptual art on networks of his representation of King of the Monsterswhich he was able to transfer perfectly to the big screen.

Takashi Yamazaki wanted to create a monstrous version of Godzilla for his film and the ambitious filmmaker achieved it.

Through X (Twitter) the filmmaker has shared that first art that served as a model to create the figure of Godzilla in ‘Minus One. The truth is that the director, together with his creative team, was able to perfectly transfer his vision to theaters, offering a special version of the beloved and feared monster. The film was recently released on Prime Video in Japan, but in Spain we are still waiting to know when it will be available on streaming.

When you have movies that have kaiju fights, I think it’s very easy to put the focus and the camera in this gigantic spectacle, and you move away from the human drama component,” he explained.
