“She would have a different career if people had seen her.” Chris Evans’ science fiction film that failed but that he considers one of his best works

“About 10 people saw it,” says the actor about his film with Cillian Murphy

Chris Evans He is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, something that is largely due to the years he spent playing the Captain America for Marvel. Of course, from the first moment he gave life to Steve Rogers he was clear that these superhero adventures were what allowed him to make other types of titles that were more satisfying on a personal level. In fact, he has gone so far as to say that his favorite film of his entire filmography was a science fiction one that “They saw about ten people.

“I love that movie”

The actor lamented at the time that “no one is going to see my good movies“, without specifying which ones he was referring to with the exception of ‘Sunshine’, the science fiction film directed by Danny Boyle in 2007, where Chris Evans was part of a great cast that also included Cillian MurphyRose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Hiroyuki Sanada and Benedict Wong, among others.

Evans did not hesitate to confess that it was his job that he felt most satisfied with, but he also expressed his disappointment at the commercial failure he suffered:

“About ten people saw it. No one goes to see my good movies. Everyone goes to see Fantastic Four but no one sees Sunshine. I would have a different career if people had seen it. I love that movie. I love Danny Boyle, the experience I had and that cast. It’s one of those movies that I love in every way.

The truth is that more than 10 people saw it, but not enough to prevent it from being one of the biggest failures of the year. At the end of the day, it is true that his $40 million budget doesn’t seem like that much, but things get complicated when we remember that he barely had a worldwide income of $32 million.

Chris Evans would have a little more luck at the box office years later with another science fiction film, ‘Snowpiercer’ with the director Bong Joon-ho, his main reason for doing it despite not understanding the script and which is surely among the actor’s favorite jobs. Of course, for my part I think that the film in his filmography that would stand out above any other is ‘Knives Out’, what about you?

Evans’ most recent release has been ‘The Business of Pain’, a drama for Netflix where he shares the spotlight with Emily Blunt under the direction of David Yates, known for his installments of the ‘Harry Potter’ saga.
