Parallel Mothers, Penélope Cruz’s best film on Netflix
The story created by Pedro Almodovar tells about the lives of two women who meet in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. They are both single and got pregnant by accident.
Janis, one of the middle-aged sisters, is unrepentant and ecstatic. The other, Ana is a teenager who is scared, regretful and traumatized.
The older sister, Janis, tries to cheer her up as they walk through the hospital hallways. The few words they exchange during those hours will create a very close bond between the two, which by chance develops and becomes complicated, affecting their lives decisively.
Cinephiles and specialists considered the film available in Netflix of Pedro Almodovar as possibly his most political story. The director talks about Historical Memory to heal a country, but also about individual memory to put one back together.
The soundtrack by Alberto Iglesias also received a nomination, although it did not win, at the 2022 Oscars.
