Steven Spielberg will return to theaters in 2026 with a science fiction film focused on UFOs

One of the most beloved directors of the seventh art is back: after the success of Los Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg will return to one of the genres that has given it the best results, both at the box office and in critics: science fiction, more specifically, films starring aliens.

Through The Hollywood Reporter, we have learned that this film will be released in theaters around the world on May 15, 2026, so we will have to wait patiently for the director’s return to science fiction. Of course, everything indicates that this return will be in style.

And the film will be completely original, designed from scratch by Spielberg himself and with a script by David Koepp, who has worked with him on hits such as Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Therefore, there is a lot of expectation to see what lies ahead for them in this film.

Spielberg hasn’t addressed the topic of aliens in many years; specifically, 19 years since the release of the remake of War of the Worlds. But in this case, the film will not simply be about aliens, but rather about UFOs, so an experience similar to one of his most acclaimed productions, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, is expected.
