Renowned actor claims that he was denied the role of Superman because he was gay: “It seemed like I was the director’s choice for the role”

The actor Matt Bomer revealed that he missed the opportunity to play superman in a movie because of his sexual orientation.

In a recent interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, the American shared that in 2000 he was very close to starring in a version of the iconic superhero that was never made.

Bomer, known for his work in White Collar and Doom Patrolexplained that he had signed a contract with Warner Bros. to star in a trilogy of films supermanbased on a script by JJ Abrams titled Superman: Flyby. However, despite going through an extensive audition process, he was never chosen for the role.

I participated in a massive audition for Superman, “which became a month-long experience, auditioning over and over again,” commented the actor. ““It seemed like I was the director’s choice for the role,” added. According to the actor, his sexual orientation could have been a determining factor in the final decision. “That was a time in the industry when something like that could still be used against you,” he noted.

Bomer did not come out publicly as gay until 2012, but hinted that his orientation may have influenced casting. “Yes, that’s my understanding,” she responded when asked if his sexuality affected his chance to play Superman. “How, why and who kicked me out of the movie, I don’t know.”, he added.
