They confuse an Australian film with ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ and plunge it into the misery of review bombing

Part of the ‘Star Wars’ community has reacted virulently against ‘The Acolyte’, the new Lucasfilm series set in the era of the High Republic. Misogynistic, sexist and homophobic comments have occurred, as well as the practice of review bombing, that is, rate the product extremely low to sink the average user ratings. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ score is 85%, while the users’ score drops to 15%. Not content with that, some fans have confused the series with ‘Acoytes’, an Australian film from 2008. The result? Plummet.

It’s not that ‘Acolytes’ was a film well regarded by users. It is true that its average was below 50%, but after the premiere of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’, it has experienced a pronounced drop, so it now stands at 33%. Leslye Headland’s series has been accused of following “the woke agenda” by reactionary followers, who have acted along the same lines as on other occasions, not only in the case of ‘Star Wars’.

What happened in episode 3 for some to say that Lucasfilm “killed ‘Star Wars’”.

In episode 3 of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’, the narrative returns to the past, to the time when Osha and Mae were children. There, in Brendok, there is a coven of witches capable of wielding the Force and understanding it in their own way. Mother Anyseya and mother Koril have managed to create life and conceive the twins without paternal involvement. Some fans have criticized that this ruins the way Anakin Skywalker came into the world and the Chosen One theory, but the difference is clear: In Anakin’s case, it was the same Force that created him, while the witches used some kind of technique to achieve it. It’s also not new to the saga: the Sith Darth Plagueis also managed to create life, so it is possible that both stories end up being related.

The fourth episode of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ will premiere on next Wednesday, June 19 on Disney+.
