In its day it was received as a true phenomenon: ‘World War Z‘ (which you can see on Netflix, SkyShowtime and Movistar Plus+) cost 190 million dollars, much more than usual for a zombie film, and also much more than what is usually styled in the usually economical horror films (although this one It’s not exactly a genre film. However, despite raising more than $540 million, no sequels were ever filmed.

‘World War Z’ was the definitive certificate, along with the success of ‘The Walking Dead’, that the zombie phenomenon had definitively become mainstream: Just a few years earlier, a star of Brad Pitt’s stature would not have agreed to participate in a zombie plague movie. But of course, this is different: it moves away from the purest terror and poses A global adventure in which the zombie virus spreads fast and furiously all over the world.

The film is inspired by a best-seller by Max Brooks, although it is notably distanced from the original, since the book is a collection of oral accounts that detail different aspects of the zombie outbreak. The film, however, focuses on a single character: a former United Nations investigator trying to save humanity from a global zombie pandemic. He travels to South Korea, Israel and Wales, facing off against hordes of zombies and uncovering clues to the nature of the outbreak.

With an absolutely feverish and deranged rhythm, which has left us with moments as delirious as those of the waves of zombies that behave more like a single liquid body that like a group of infected, the film does not stand still for a moment, and although there is more room for the slightly political thriller than for pure horror, the spectacle makes up for the trip. At the time there was talk of a sequel, but although both JA Bayona and David Fincher were linked to the project, Paramount ended up canceling the project because they considered it too risky and preferred to focus on safer franchises.
