The emotion that Disney/Pixar removed from Inside Out 2 for being too heavy

In recent years, Pixar has become the leading animation studio in presenting emotionally heavy themes, something it did again with “Inside Out.”

Some of his latest films like “Soul” of 2020 or “Grid” of 2022 are very concrete examples of this fight. In the case of “Soul”maybe a story about death, the afterlife and regrets was a bit much, leading parents to make their children watch other movies. The same could be said of “Grid”which addressed puberty and generational trauma in a way that not everyone received very well. They are excellent themes for cinema, but Pixar put too much effort into making their movies feel like therapy sessions, which can feel pretty exhausting.

Eliminate Remorse “Inside Out 2” It’s a sign that Pixar is starting to adjust its approach, which doesn’t mean the sequel doesn’t carry emotional weight. After all, part of the success of the previous film was due to the fact that it showed how an 11-year-old girl developed the ability to experience several emotions simultaneously and embraced the importance of sadness as part of growing up. What’s more: he even forgot parts of his childhood, like his imaginary friend Bing Bong, but in a way that was still entertaining and generally positive.

The studio seems to be understanding that it should not overwhelm its audience with such great emotional weight in its films. And “Intensa Mente” explored the importance of some negative emotions and how we leave childhood behind.

Although Remorse would have inclined “Inside Out 2” to a too negative place, Riley’s new emotions are still quite heavy. Besides, The fact that these emotions are basically leading a coup d’état and suppressing the others still represents deep themes. The difference is that “Inside Out 2” You can present it with humor, which would help it do better than some of Pixar’s latest projects.
