“The Exorcism” takes place during the filming of a movie in which strange events happen. Trailer.

With the presence of two tanks aimed at family outings such as “Intensa Mente 2” and “My Favorite Villain 4”, there is little space left for new products in the Tucumán commercial rooms. So only one premiere arrives in the province today and it is destined for supernatural horror, a genre that is cutting entries.

The first thing that is essential to announce “The Exorcism” is that this film has nothing to do (it is not a sequel or prequel) with “The Pope’s Exorcist” – released last year -, although the name of the film may confuse and the protagonist is the same: Russell Crowe, apparently specializing in films where diabolical possessions are present. In fact, the production that arrives today is prior to the other, since it was completed five years ago but was waiting for the ideal moment for its launch (and to take advantage of the prestige of the New Zealand performer as a priest who must fight demons).

Now directed by Joshua John Miller, the Oscar winner stars as Anthony Miller, an actor chosen to play a priest specializing in satanic possessions for the filming of an ambitious production. But as Miller becomes involved in the fictional character and filming progresses, his addiction problems come back to haunt him, causing him to become destabilized with hallucinations as the boundaries between acting and reality, with the contribution of sinister situations that occur, become destabilized. on the convulsed set, they become blurred.

Russell Crowe tried to visit Pope Francis to promote the movie “Noah”

“They were making a damn movie. They were warned not to do so. “They should have listened,” appears in the trailers of the film, whose first version of the script was written by Kevin Williamsonalthough the final cut was crafted by Miller and MA Fortin, knowledgeable on the subject. The cast also includes Ryan Simpkins (as Miller’s daughter, worried about her father’s situation), Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, David Hyde Pierce and Adam Goldbergthe latter as the project director who faces his own hell.

Subtle references

The production also plays with subtle references: the director is the son of Jason Millerwho was the suicidal Father Karras in the classic “The Exorcist” and the name of the film he is filming in fiction is “The Georgetown Project”, which was the area of Washington where the mythical film was filmed, whose dark myth refers to strange and inexplicable events that happened while progress was being made in its completion in 1973.

“My dad told me stories about how ‘cursed’ that movie was: the mysterious fires, the strange deaths, the lifelong injuries… the list went on and on. All of that has captivated me ever since,” the director admits. In this way, the premiere can well be read as an elliptical allegory to that key work from 50 years ago, which opened a new era in the field, with the materialization now of the concept of a film within another.
