Today it hits Spanish cinemas Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagramthe movie number 27 of the famous anime series based on the manga by Gôshô Aoyama whose launch in Japan has been a success to the point of becoming the best premiere of the film saga so far.

Thanks to Alfa Pictures we can continue enjoying the adventures of the little detective with only a few months difference with respect to the Japanese country, already forming part of an annual tradition since it was launched in 2018. Detective Conan: The Zero Case.

A couple of days ago I had the privilege of attending the press screening of the film and below I share my impressions on the criticism of Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram.

These are the best tablets to watch movies and series

If you usually watch series when you travel or in various parts of the house, these tablets can be good companions for consuming entertainment.

See list

Unlike the previous feature films, this time it is not necessary to be so up to date with the series of anime to understand the film (although they do make several mentions of some moments in the series).

However, it shows some details that will be key to the original work of Gôshô Aoyama, which makes viewing it essential for every fan of Detective Conan (I know that if you are a fan of the series you will watch the movie anyway, but I am warning you just in case).

Conan Edogawa and Heiji Hattori face Kaito Kid in Hokkaido

As is often the case with detective films, each feature film takes us on a tour of the different regions of Japan (and even other corners of the world), enjoying the splendid recreation of the environment made by Chika Nagaoka (who has already worked as a director on the franchise’s films Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet and Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire).

This time the action moves to Hokkaido, where the famous white-collar thief Kaito Kid is back and He intends to steal a series of katanas that hide the location of a legendary treasure..

How could it be otherwise, the little detective Conan Edogawa also is in place to try to stop the elusive thief and find out once and for all who is hiding under that top hat and monocle.

But this time our protagonist is not alone, since he has the help of Heiji Hattori, the famous teenage detective from Osaka who knows who Conan really is. Shinichi Kudo and who has already collaborated with the little detective on numerous occasions, being very good friends despite being rivals in the field of deduction.

However, Things get complicated when a person is found murdered.so the thief will have no choice but to make a truce with the detectives to try to solve the crime while they find out the truth about the treasure.

A film that follows the same guidelines as the saga, but with a surprise (very) at the end

After having watched 26 movies and more than 1,000 episodes of both the anime series and the manga, It’s hard to surprise me at this point with a movie Detective Conan and, of course, this twenty-seventh installment is no exception. At least in part.

Although I normally tend to guess who the culprit might be, on this occasion I had my doubts about a couple of characters. And deep down I was not on the wrong path because there is something of a “trick” with one of them (and I can read up to this point).

In fact, The big surprise of the film is found at the very end, more specifically in the post-credits scene.where a fact about Kaito Kid is revealed that will be key to the manga canon.

That has been one of my big doubts with the movies. Detective Conanto what extent they are canon with the work of Gôshô Aoyama, since in the feature films Kaito Kid knows that Conan Edogawa is Shinichi Kudo, but in the manga no mention is made of it.

It was not until recently that Kaito Kid was finally seen in the manga dressed as Shinichi Kudo and reference was made to previous encounters which, without specifying any of them, it is intuited that they are talking about moments experienced in the films.

Therefore, the movies of Detective Conan They are canon for the events of the mangato. How to fit them into the confusing chronology of Gôshô Aoyama’s work is something he will have to address at another time.

As is often the case with the franchise, the highest point of Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram is in its final stretch, where The greatest display of action is shown with Conan emulating Tom Cruise by performing the most unlikely but equally enjoyable maneuvers..

Special mention deserves the animation section where, apart from offering us several exciting action sequences, it delights us with some Very well detailed scenariossomething that can be verified by looking at the end credits, which show real images of Hokkaido and the locations used as reference for the film.

Of course, although it is a more “independent” film, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram It is a film that fans of the franchise will enjoy more than those who are not familiar with the lore.. Also, as a bonus, there is a cameo that only the most staunch followers of Gôshô Aoyama’s work will catch on the fly.

Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram It is in cinemas in Spain from today, June 28, 2024 and, as is tradition, at the end of the film we have the announcement of the next film, giving a slight clue as to which character we will see in it.
