The prequel directed by Michael Sarnoski is expected to close its first weekend with a collection very close to its budget
It seems that summer is bringing a breath of fresh air to the international box office. After the bombshell of ‘Inside Out 2’, which has already grossed $863 million worldwide and is now the highest grossing film of the year above ‘Dune: Part Two’, the surprising ‘A Quiet Place: Day 1’ has also hit the jackpot economically.
A profitable place
The prequel to the saga that began in 2018 by John Krasinski has had the second best opening for a horror film during its release day since the pandemic. Specifically, Michael Sarnoski’s title earned $6.8 million in American theaters last Thursdaysurpassing ‘Nope’ – with 6.7 million -, ‘Scream’ – 5.7 million – and ‘Halloween: The End’ – 5.4 million -.
‘Day 1’ has also far surpassed its two predecessors. In its debut, the original ‘A Quiet Place’ stayed at 4.3 million dollars, while the second part rose to 4.8 million. Interestingly, these box office figures do not exactly match the public’s opinion of the three installments of the franchise. The highest rated continues to be ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’, rated with an A-, while, on the other hand, ‘A Quiet Place’ and ‘Day 1’ tie with a lower score of B+a couple of steps below the sequel.
In Spain, in the absence of concrete figures, ‘A Quiet Place: Day 1’ has not been able to take the throne from ‘Inside Out 2’ neither on Thursday nor on Friday, but there is enough room for the feature film starring Lupita Nyongo’o to have a fairly decent debut on its long weekend.
