It seems that summer is bringing a breath of fresh air to the international box office. After the bombing of ‘Inside Out 2’, which already totals $863 million worldwide and ranks as the highest-grossing film of the year above ‘Dune: Part Two’, the surprising ‘A Quiet Place: Day 1’ ‘ It has also given the bell economically.

A profitable place

The prequel to the saga launched in 2018 by John Krasinski has had the second best opening for a horror film on its release day since the pandemic. Specifically, Michael Sarnoski’s title earned $6.8 million last Thursday in American theaterssurpassing ‘Nop’ —with 6.7 million—, ‘Scream’ —5.7 million— and ‘Halloween: The Finale’ —5.4 million—.

‘Day 1’ has also far outperformed its two predecessors. In its debut, the original ‘A Quiet Place’ came in at $4.3 million, while the sequel climbed to $4.8 million. Overall, the latest ‘A Quiet Place’ is expected to closes its first weekend with a range between 40 and 50 million dollars; certainly a figure worthy of celebration if we consider that its budget is estimated at 67 million dollars.

Curiously, these box office data do not exactly fit the public’s opinion of the three installments of the franchise. The best rated continues to be ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’, rated with an A-, while, for its part, ‘A Quiet Place’ and ‘Day 1’ tie with a lower score of B+a couple of steps below the sequel.

In Spain, in the absence of concrete figures, ‘A Quiet Place: Day 1’ has not been able to take the throne from ‘Inside Out 2’ neither on Thursday nor Friday, but there is enough room for the feature starring Lupita Nyongo’o to have a fairly decent debut on its long weekend.
