He chose the image of an ace of spades for his index finger.
The co-founder and leader of Metallica, James Hetfield, showed this Wednesday on social networks a new tattoo dedicated to the leader of the iconic band Motorhead, Lemmy Kilmister.
According to Hetfield, the black ink used is mixed with “a pinch of the cremation ashes” of the rock star, who died of cancer in December 2015 at the age of 70.
The Metallica vocalist and guitarist shared a photo of his middle finger with the new ace of spades tattoo, engraved by tattoo artist Corey Miller.
The caption accompanying the image reads: “Shout out to my friend and inspiration, Mr. Lemmy Kilmister. Without him, there would be no Metallica.” Hetfield said the ashes were “kindly given to him.”
Kilmister founded Motorhead in 1975 and is widely considered one of the pioneers of heavy metal.
With Motorhead, Lemmy released more than twenty albums. One of the most emblematic songs in his repertoire was precisely ‘Ace of Spades’ (1980). On Metallica’s official Instagram account, belonging to Meta*, Hetfield showed the same photo of his tattooed finger accompanied by the comment: “So now he can still make the bird fly into the world.”
