The friendship between Jorge Rojas and Fernando Quevedo from San Luis began in Córdoba, 25 years ago, when the former leader of “Los Fulanos” while studying law took his first steps with music. One day, with his roommates, he saw the then singer of “Los Nocheros” pass by his house and, with his shyness overcome, he introduced himself.

From then on, the working and friendly relationship between the singer born in San Francisco del Monte de Oro and one of the most transcendent soloists in national folklore added milestone after milestone. The latest is the nomination for the Gardel Awards in the “Folklore Song” category of “Where there is love there is no forgetting”, a song composed by both of them that is on the Salta native’s most recent album.

“With Jorge we must have 20 songs made between the two of us; I think that in all of his solo albums that he released there is at least one song of mine,” said Quevedo, proudly, who has almost 50 of his own songs registered in Sadaic.

Many of them are part of the repertoire of “Los fulanos”, the group that this year decided to take a break, which Fernando mentioned as “a break in the track.”

“Where there is love there is no forgetting” is a zamba that Rojas recorded with “Raly” Barrionuevo, another reference in folk music for Quevedo. The San Francisco native said that already in the second verse, when he mentioned mistol in part of the lyrics, he thought of the Santiago native to interpret it.

In fact, Fernando was present at the recording of the vocals for the song and was delighted with the result. “For those two monsters to sing a song of mine is something incredible.”

The composition of the song took approximately a week of work in which, in addition, Jorge and Fernando created other songs that will soon be released. The method they have is the same since they started the composition duo in 2007: they work on loose ideas of melodies and lyrics that are sent and then, in a face-to-face meeting, they give it the final touch.

“This is a very beautiful zamba whose idea is summarized in the title: a lot of time may pass, many things may happen, a person may not be by your side circumstantially, but if they remain in your heart, they will always be present,” explained Fernando, who said that the recipient of love can be brotherly, as a couple or friendly.

Rojas and Quevedo have a resolution that aims to make their songs more popular: they do not assign male or female gender to the characters in their stories. With that, explained the man from San Luis, they try to open the spectrum and not always fall into the same idea.

The “Where there is love…” competition on May 28, when the Gardel awards are presented, will be very complex: in addition to the summit meeting of Rojas and Barrionuevo, the jury considered “Baile siempre” by Mery Murúa in the shortlist; “Muere y lueve” from “Los tabaleros in conjunction with Soledad; “Río”, from “Ahyre” with “Los tekis” and “Pitín” Zalazar and “Wherever they go”, which brought together Teresa Parodi, Lula Bertoldi, Ivonne Guzmán, Nadia Larcher and Ana Prada.

“For me,” said Quevedo, “it is a somewhat ambiguous feeling because I never believed in competition in art, but I take the existence of these awards as part of the industry. I was listening to the other songs and they are all very beautiful works. In any case, hope is the last thing that is lost and I would very much like to see a winner from San Francisco, a winner from San Francisco, of this very important award.”

In the category “Best Quartet Artist Album” there is also a Puntana presence among the nominations. Eugenia Quevedo, the young woman born in Tilisarao and who spent her entire career in Córdoba, was in the shortlist for “La Muela”, the album she recorded with “La Banda de Carlitos”, the group she joined some time ago. .

He will compete in the category with Ulises Bueno and his album “Luna Park 12” and “The feminine voice of the quartet”, the work of Magui Olave.
