TOP has shared his opinion on the cancellation of SpaceX’s dearMoon project.
On June 1, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa announced the cancellation of his “dearMoon” mission, a lunar tourism project intended to be the first private flight around the Moon. In 2022, TOP was one of the eight artists selected for participate in the expedition as members of the crew.
The day after the announcement, TOP took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message in English about the cancellation. The former BIGBANG member also hinted at the release of new music by mentioning that his preparations for the mission had inspired him to “compose a lot of new music, some of which I hope to share soon.”

Regarding the cancellation of the dearMoon project:
As you may have heard, unfortunately the ‘dearMoon’ project has been cancelled.
However, I am deeply grateful to Mr. Yusaku Maezawa for conceptualizing the ‘dearMoon’ project.
He selected and brought together beautiful artists from around the world to embark on a mission to travel to the moon and create art inspired by this journey. This was the greatest and most beautiful artistic project for the development of humanity that anyone in the world had ever dared to imagine and it was truly extraordinary to witness the courage to even attempt this mission.
My dream is by no means over.
Being selected as a member of the ‘dearMoon’ crew was one of the greatest honors of my life. My heart is full of gratitude for the experiences I gained and the friendships I made through this process.
In the past few years since joining ‘dearMoon’, I feel like my body and soul have forged a deep and direct connection with the moon. My imagination has expanded to places I would never have expected as I prepared for moon exploration.
As a Korean artist, this experience has had a profound impact on my life and the music I make. My body and soul connecting with the moon and space have already inspired me to compose a lot of new music, some of which I hope to share soon. The moon will continue to feed my soul and fill me with meaning and inspiration forever.
The ‘dearMoon’ mission made my dream of going to space, something that seemed completely impossible, feel possible for the first time. This invaluable experience has changed my life and my perspective forever. My dream of traveling to the moon is not over. It has become the ultimate and greatest goal of my life, an official challenge and a central mission for my life.
I feel a deep responsibility for all the people who encouraged and supported me during this process to make them proud.
I will never give up on my dreams and will continue to pursue new adventures that challenge me. This is for all those who strive with love.
