Approximately 200 people became ill due to norovirus outbreaks aboard shipping vessels. Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)94 of the 2,532 passengers on board the Sapphire Princess They reported the illness, along with 20 crew members, during the April 5 voyage. This itinerary which departed from Los Angeles, CA, is scheduled to conclude on May 7.
Likewise, in the Radiance of the Seas On Royal Caribbean, 67 of the 1,993 guests, along with two crew members, reported illness during the voyage that concluded April 22. The latter originated in Tampa, Florida, and ended in Los Angeles, making stops in countries such as Colombia and Panama.
It is worth mentioning that the main symptoms experienced by those affected in both outbreaks were diarrhea and vomiting.
Following these incidents, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean and ship crews implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols. They also isolated people who became ill, among other precautionary measures, in accordance with health agency recommendations.
