Havana, April 29.- The triumphs of Ulicer Aguilera and Felipa Hechavarría set the Cuban titles at seven at the Moulay El Hassan International Paraathletics Meeting in Marrakech 2024, in Morocco.

The Parapan American javelin champion in the F11 category returned to action recovered from his discomfort and had a good performance. In addition to his winning throw of 58.01 meters, three below his best mark, he completed another three over 55 meters to confirm that he is on his way to achieving optimal form.

The man from Holguin is part of the trio of Cubans classified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, an event he will attend with the aim of climbing to the podium. Some clue about this possibility will be left first in the universal para-athletics competition that the Japanese city of Kobe will host in mid-May.

As for Felipa (T46), she won the title thanks to a record of 5.32 meters and maintains her aspirations of getting a ticket for the Paris event.

The experienced discus thrower Leonardo Díaz (F56), Noraivis de las Heras in the shot put (F57) and Daniel Milanés in the 400 meters (T47) completed their commitments with silver medals.

The latter covered the oval of the Grand Stadium of Marrakech in 50.84 seconds, Leonardo took his competition top to 38.20 meters and Noraivis pushed the implement to 9.63.

Also in the shot put, Gerdan Fonseca contributed a bronze medal with a height of 10.91 meters among the contestants in the F57 category. It was his third prize in the event, as he had won silver medals in the discus and javelin throws.

The Island group, marked by the absence of multi-time world and Paralympic champion sprinter Omara Durand (T12), rounded out their harvest totals at seven gold metals, nine silver and two bronze.

The titles included that of long jumper Robiel Yankiel Sol (T46), who competes against himself in each start, now with a jump of 7.65 meters.

Para-athletes from more than 60 nations competed in Marrakech, many sharing the aspirations of reserving space for Paris 2024 and of first achieving good results in the universal competition in Japan. (Text and photo: JIT)
