Cuba achieved world record dancing casino (+photos and post)

Las Tunas.- This Sunday was memorable for lovers of Cuban music. Cuba conquered the World Record for Cuban Popular and Sports Dances, by providing the largest number of casino wheels (142) and people dancing in unison (2946), “a transcendental fact, a sample of the culture, identity and joy of our people” , as expressed by the President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel, in his X account.

As reported by Marianela Ramírez, communicator from the Provincial Center of Houses of Culture (CPCC), in our province seven rounds from the Las Tunas municipalities participated (Renacer de lírica, Danza Show, Etecsa Dance, among other groups), ´Amancio´ (Cuban Fusion ), Manatí (Impacto) and ´Jesús Menéndez´ (Young people for life). “In total, 86 people entered the challenge, which they completed in just nine minutes,” she said.

On the Balcón de Oriente, not even the rain could prevent the assignment from being carried out, for which its protagonists had been rehearsing for months. In the main municipality, the commission materialized in the Cultural Plaza and the House of the Young Creator, both sites located in the historic center. In general, among the brotherhoods involved in the province, the Cuban Fusion wheel, of ´Amancio´, stood out, composed of the casino club Me dice Cuba and the dance group Paso Libre, which recently represented Las Tunas at the Eastern Regional Festival of Casino, which occurred in Santiago de Cuba.

Thus, not even the atmospheric conditions could take away the joy of creators like the Provincial Dance Methodologist Ángel Orlando Matos, who had been dreaming of such an achievement for some time, responding to the call of the international project Retomando el Son Bailando Casino (world record holder in Venezuela, year 2022) , directed by Luis Llamo. A nice way to celebrate -also- Cuban Son Day, which is celebrated on May 8.

The casino is a dance born in Cuba at the end of the 50s, which strongly reflects the character of our people. Its Creole flavor, elegance, freedom of movement, integration between the dancers and other accoutrements have made it part of an empowered tradition in our popular festivals. This world record reaffirmed its popular roots and also pays tribute to the desire for the son to become Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
