Casual as always and marking breaks with what we are used to in Sancti Spíritus, Álvaro José Brunet returns to the Yayabera gallery with the exhibition liquidated art.

“I didn’t want to overlook my 50 years and already several of them dedicated to artistic photography. That’s why I thought the best way was to share pieces that make up the series with the public. The weight of life”.

But, as Álvaro is accustomed to us when he makes a space his own, the exhibition marks a before and after in the history of the visual arts in Sancti Spiritus, since it opened its doors without an inauguration. It has been designed to do it on the day it ends, scheduled for May 29. Particularity of which there are no references here.

“These photographs printed on canvas of a considerable format belong to collectors who undertook the assembly. Today it becomes very complex to pay for an exhibition like this. On the last day they will take down their works and take them away. That’s why we say that the proposal is based on relational aesthetics, which I have always liked to work on so that it doesn’t remain coldly on the walls, but also generates an intervention with the public, in this case with collectors.”

Although many of the snapshots have been enjoyed in exhibitions and salons, others come to dialogue, for the first time, with the public.

“The collectors served as curators because from a group of 150 works they chose the 17 that are exhibited. In order not to exclude those who visit the gallery, on the final day we will do a draw and the winner will be able to take Meaning in the voidwinning photograph in the last Oscar Fernández Morera Salon.”

Only previously, in 2011, had it been possible to enjoy a significant number of works belonging to the series The weight of life —the largest made by Álvaro and, according to critics, where his maturity as a creator is evident— and, later, some had integrated group exhibitions and competitions.

“This idea also allows us to reflect on what happens to art when it belongs to a collector; Of course, in general, since you pay a considerable amount, you take care of it and protect it.”

The renowned visual artist Álvaro José Brunet announced that he also intends, at the inauguration, the day the exhibition is sealed liquidated artpresent a video that takes a tour of what happened with the work Final destinationpresented at the 2015 Havana Biennial and which analyzes precisely what happens to the pieces beyond the studio and galleries.
