Tenth Summit of the Eurasian Economic Union began in Moscow – Juventud Rebelde

The Tenth Summit of the Eurasian Economic Union began today Wednesday in Moscow with the presence of its members and special guests, the RT and TeleSur agencies reported.

The guests at this event are the presidents of Cuba, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Cuba is the only country outside the Eurasian region that is part of the bloc as an observer, participating for the first time in person instead of virtually.

The Eurasian Economic Union was founded in May 2014 with the aim of ensuring the free movement of goods, services, capital and workers in member states and pursuing a common policy in the main economic sectors: energy, industry, agriculture and transport.

At the end of the meeting, a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is planned.

Putin is also expected to meet with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.

At the meeting, Russia highlighted the significant growth of the Union last year and highlighted the 3.8 percent increase in the gross national product of the member states, which exceeds the growth of the European Union (EU) countries.

The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, reiterated his interest in greater participation by Havana in the mechanisms of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Cuban President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez thanked the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) for the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Island.

“We are a small country that has been under an economic, commercial and financial blockade for 16 decades, which has worsened in recent years with measures designed to prevent the success of development plans and make the daily lives of Cubans difficult,” he explained. President.

“The unjust addition of Cuba to the US list of states that allegedly support terrorism has had a devastating effect on the country’s economic activity and has caused a very stressful situation in the economy that the Cuban people are facing with admirable courage and creativity,” he claimed.

“In such circumstances, the historical understanding, friendship and support of the countries belonging to the UEE have an immeasurable value, which Cuba deeply appreciates,” he emphasized. “Those who block us will never understand and therefore will never be able to prevent the great relations between our countries,” Díaz-Canel concluded.

The Cuban president also reiterated his interest in greater participation by Havana in the mechanisms of the alliance. “I truly believe that we all need better cooperation to advance joint projects in areas of common interest,” he said. “I want to reaffirm Cuba’s desire and commitment to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with the EEU and its member states,” he added.

UEE boosts trade despite sanctions

The increase in the trade volume of the Eurasian Economic Union is a sign of effectiveness in the face of sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, according to Prensa Latina.

“The Eurasian Union has proven its effectiveness in the face of new challenges, including those related to the sanctions policy of some countries and the dismantling of many foundations of international trade,” Putin stressed.

He specified that during the 10 years of work, trade barriers have indeed become more flexible and have maintained the stability of the region in the midst of the global economic crisis.

He highlighted the development of transport through the Siberian Corridor or Northern Route, which has even better connections, especially sea and land transport. “We are exploring how we can promote cooperation and support an alternative to China’s Belt and Road,” she added.

The Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinián, for his part, drew attention to the need to strengthen the exchange of products through signatures and QR codes “that guarantee the security and control of advertisements,” he explained.

At the same time, the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, highlighted the possibility of expanding trade relations with Latin American and African countries, “these regions have woken up from neocolonialism, have become independent from their former metropolises and are seeking greater autonomy.”

Earlier, during the reduced format of the summit, Putin announced an increase in the total gross domestic product of the EEU countries from $1.6 trillion to $2.5 trillion.

The presidency of the Federation was transferred from Russia to Armenia on January 1 of this year, so this meeting is chaired by President Nikol Pashinyan.
