Cuba-Russia Friendship Race

Havana, May 8 (JIT).- The VIII edition of the Friendship Race between Cuba and Russia will take place this Saturday here, as highlighted in the presentation of the event made today by the ambassador of that country on the Island Víctor Koronelli.

The diplomat pondered the meaning of the event that will start at 10 in the morning and finish in front of the embassy building, located on Fifth Avenue between 62 and 66 in Miramar, in the municipality of Playa.

Koronelli spoke about the beginning of the race, several years ago, when his compatriots took to the surrounding streets with photographs of compatriots who gave the world the victory over German fascism.

Sergei A. Obozbov, counselor, offered more detailed information about the great Victory of the Army of the Soviet Union over fascism, and invited those present to celebrate what he called the victory marathon, celebrated by nations friendly to Russia.

The Great Patriotic War ended on May 9, 1945, when the victory over fascism materialized, achieved thanks to the bravery and heroism of the Soviet people, who paid the very high price of 27 million deaths.

For his part, Carlos Gattorno, director of the National Running and Walking Commission of Cuba (CNCC), specified that as is traditional the route will be along Fifth Avenue, 66th Street to the third, 30th to the first, 60th to the third and along 66th to the goal.

He also highlighted that the first 600 to reach the finish line will receive recognition from the main organizers of the long-awaited event.

Juan Carlos Mesa and Faustino Heredia, head of the National Commission of Judges and Arbitrators of Inder, also attended for the CNCC.
