Pelayo Sánchez can with Julian Alaphilippe in the sterrato stage

The Spanish cyclist Pelayo Sánchez (Movistar) has won the sixth stage of the 107th edition of the Giro d’Italia, a peculiar 180-kilometer day held this Thursday between the Italian towns of Viareggio and Rapolano Terme, which consisted of 11.3 kilometers. of the dreaded ‘sterrato’ in its final part.

Pelayo Sánchez won the arrival at Rapolano Terme in a three-way sprint ahead of the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quick Step) and the Australian Lucas Plapp (Jayco-AlUla), second and third respectively.

The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), who donned the leader’s jersey after achieving the solo victory in the second stage, overcame the day without complications to continue leading the individual general classification of the ‘Corsa Rosa’.

Seven cyclists formed the breakaway of the day, including Julian Alaphilippe, Pelayo Sánchez and Luke Plapp. These last three were the ones who played for victory in a sprint in the streets of Rapolano Terme, where Alaphilippe launched the sprint and Pelayo finished off.

The Giro d’Italia will continue this Friday with the dispute of its seventh stage, a 40.6 kilometer individual time trial that will link the towns of Foligno and Perugia which, beyond the first place in Pogacar, promises to make changes in the first positions of the general classification.
