The Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, in use of the powers conferred upon it, ordered that the inauguration of the governors and vice-governors in the provinces of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos be carried out on the day May 21, 2024, at 9:00 am
According to agreement no. 176-X of this body, published today in the Official Gazette of the Republic no. 34 Extraordinary of 2024; Members of the Council of State were appointed to preside over said acts in each of these territories: Esteban Lazo Hernández (Santiago de Cuba), Ana María Mari Machado (Villa Clara), Homero Acosta Álvarez (Hundred fires) and Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento (Matanzas).
Agreements 166-X and 175-X of the Council of State, dated April 5 and 24, 2024, respectively, provided that the election of the provincial governors and vice-governors of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos would be held on May 4, 2024. That day all the candidates were elected with more than half of the valid votes cast, according to information offered by the National Electoral Council, on a democratic day, with transparency and adherence to the law, as characterized to the Cuban electoral system.
The Law no. 127 “Electoral Law” establishes that the elected provincial governors and vice-governors take possession of their positions before the representative of the Council of State designated for this purpose, on the date set by the latter, within the period of twenty-one days following their election.
