Since on the afternoon of this Monday, May 20, a Severe local storm will affect several areas of the Venegas Popular Councillocated in the Sancti Spiritus municipality of Yaguajay, the highest authorities of the territory identified the main damages and immediately promoted recovery actions.

As explained to Escambray Michel Zerquera Martínez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power (AMPP) in the north of Sancti Spiritus, the damages are concentrated in the electrical networks and the roof of the facilities of the Venegas Livestock Company, the Venegas Pork and the Mérida Cheese Factory, in addition to some homes from the settlements of Mérida and La Dalia.

Zerquera Martínez pointed out that, in the case of the Venegas Livestock Company, six meters of the slaughterhouse wall were damaged; areas planted with bananas in the feed factory, as well as the roofs of dairy farms 1 and 2, which have already been recovered.

Likewise, he pointed out that in El Porcino the greatest damage is to the roofs of the facility, some recoverable and others not. For its part, at the Mérida Cheese Factory, damage was reported to the ceilings of the production areas, hazardous substances, the pigsty, the kitchen, the boiler and the warehouse.

Likewise, the natural phenomenon wreaked havoc on some products that were stored and, according to the director of the center, they are working on marketing the finished production.

The president of the AMPP in the territory highlighted that to date there have been three total house collapses and 18 roof damage. At the same time, there is damage to the roof of the stops in the communities of Mérida and La Dalia; while the storm left the towns of Mérida, La Dalia, Venegas, Perea and Los Ramones without electricity service.

Faced with this situation, a brigade of linemen from Sancti Spíritus, together with another from Yaguajay, are determined to restore the nearly three kilometers of damaged line.

The recovery work carried out in these areas of the Venegas Popular Council has found the support of the Livestock, Mérida and Comercio y Gastronomía companies, which have contributed to feeding the workers.
