The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, stated today that several European countries could recognize Palestine as an independent state next week, Prensa Latina reports.

It is possible that several countries in the region will follow the example of Dublin, Madrid and Oslo, which announced the decision to recognize Palestine as a State, the chancellor indicated.

According to him, there has been a very unequal relationship between Israel and Palestine in recent years.

That is why I believe that this recognition is constructive, considered the diplomat.

The Foreign Minister also clarified that Oslo has no intention of calling the ambassador to Israel for consultations, despite a similar measure adopted by the Jewish state.

To date, the Palestinian state has been recognized by more than 140 UN member countries, and Palestinian embassies and permanent missions operate in 95 countries.

Palestine is also a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation since 1969, of the Arab League (1976), of UNESCO in 2011; from the International Criminal Court since 2015, and from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in 2018.

In addition, it has been a partner in strengthening democracy in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2011 and an observer at the UN since 2012.
