Martha Christian has resigned from her position as Director of Miss Universe Mexico just a few weeks after assuming the position.
The departure of the model and actress is due to the organization’s refusal to include transgender women in the contest.
Cristiana, also a jewelry designer, had previously expressed her intention to make Miss Universe Mexico an inclusive competition, similar to other international chapters of the contest.
In a press conference on Monday, June 24, 2024, Cristiana denounced a lack of true inclusion within the direction of the contest in Mexico.
The actress pointed out that for her beauty must reflect an evolving society and expressed her admiration for Raul Rocha Cantuco-owner of the Miss Universe organization with Anne Jakrajutatipa trans woman.
“There is an absolutely normalized transphobia in this country and I find it embarrassing that we continue with that position and that we do not realize that at the end of the day we are all human beings and that we have the same right and that these rights also belong to the world of beauty,” he expressed.
Cristiana commented on her expectations upon assuming leadership of the pageant, believing that the pageant had taken a progressive approach to inclusion by age and gender identity.
However, she mentioned that after eight weeks, the promises made had not been fulfilled, specifically regarding the inclusion of transgender women.
“I should not and cannot be part of an organization that is run in that way. And for that reason Today I present my resignation to all of you because I cannot continue promising things that I know are not going to be fulfilled and I hope that this keeps my mouth shut and that this board of directors has the intelligence to include a trans woman,” the model expressed at a press conference.
He stressed that Rocha Cantú was not responsible for these restrictions and suggested that the decisions were made within the boards of directors led by the Cuban businessman. Osmel Sousa.
