The event, which will run until next Sunday, May 26, was inaugurated this afternoon with the presence of sports authorities from the province and a record number of more than 250 competitors of both sexes representing 10 provinces of the country.

Since early morning, children of all categories rolled their skates on the newly paved track, inaugurated last century for the celebration of the XI Pan American Games in Cuba.

All the skaters of the national team have gone through “Chocolate”, it is the event that brings together the largest number of Cuban athletes in this sport at all levels. There is no skater or coach who does not do their best to attend, Yenssi Álvarez, a teacher from the capital and one of the founders of the Cup, told Prensa Latina.

The former skater pointed out that although it is a regional competition, from its beginning neighboring provinces were invited, but due to the quality and prestige that the tournament has been gaining, several have joined over time and now they are all interested in participating.

We thank the entire skating family for cooperating with resources and services so that this Cup could be held during all these years. To the referees, coaches, the organizing committee and the volunteers who are completely in love with this sport, added Álvarez.

In the midst of tears and emotions and with that unique passion with which parents and children experience sport, a total of 26 finals were played, 14 of them in the afternoon.

This type of event is very important because it is a party for the pioneer category. Here they compete among themselves, make new friends and fraternize, the national commissioner of this sport, Sabrina Sánchez Companioni, told Prensa Latina.

Tony García Acuña, skater of the national team and founder of this event, explained to those present the reason for the name chosen for the Cup, dedicated in his words to a man who was always attentive to every detail and willing to do anything for the development of the skating on the Caribbean island.

Many of us have a special affection for Chocolate, we carry the memory of his teachings and we are determined not to let him die in oblivion, he added.
