There is a new way of scamming that is expanding throughout the world and, of course, is also reaching Argentina: they clone voices and use it to send messages on WhatsApp asking for money or some other type of fraudulent maneuver.

It is the scam known as vishing and cases are being registered throughout the country, with situations that are very complicated to stop.

In the city of Mar del Plata, lawyer Rodrigo Bionda, a specialist in cybercrime prevention, gave recommendations to be attentive to sophisticated maneuvers linked to artificial intelligence.

“We must begin to disbelieve everything we see and hear,” said the specialist.

You do not have to answer calls from India.

“If the recording is around half a minute it would be impossible to tell if it is real or not. “I did a video call test with a paid version of artificial intelligence and it is impossible to tell if we are in front of the original person,” explained the lawyer.

The term derives from the union of two words: ‘voice’ and ‘phishing’ and refers to the type of threat that combines a fraudulent phone call with information previously obtained from the Internet.

Scams with voices cloned by artificial intelligence (AI) represent a type of cyberattack that uses this technology to clone voices, impersonating family members or friends to deceive their victims.

According to a recent survey conducted by McAfee, 77% of victims of this type of fraud ended up sending money. (NA)
