Cuban Foreign Minister highlights Havana’s interest in joining the Brics group

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Cuba, Sergei Lavrov, and Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, respectively, addressed various aspects of the bilateral strategic partnership and reaffirmed the “excellent” state of the ties between both nations, during a meeting held in Moscow.

The BRICS Plus/Outreach format meeting at the level of foreign ministers in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod gave Cuba an opportunity to once again express its interest in joining the group, declared the Cuban Foreign Minister.

The event “also allowed us to emphasize Cuba’s interest in being part of the Brics group,” the owner stressed.

In his opinion, the meeting also presented an opportunity “to emphasize the priority that Cuba gives to this group, to its contribution to the international balance, to the creation of a new, multilateral international order, based on equality, sovereign, democratic and equitable. ».

For his part, in a press conference, Lavrov assured that it constitutes an “anomaly” that the United States includes Cuba on the list of states that supposedly sponsor terrorism.

In that sense, he stated that «USA. The US, together with its satellites, attempts to maintain its declining hegemony in world affairs with procedures of absolute terror, using methods of economic, financial and diplomatic terrorism, along with direct financing of terrorist attacks by the neo-Nazi regime in kyiv against civilians in Russian territory.

In addition, he affirmed that Russia will continue to offer humanitarian assistance to Havana, given the blockade imposed by the White House on the Greater Antilles.

On the other hand, Lavrov thanked Cuba for its position regarding the conflict with Ukraine, highlighting that, from the first moment, the Caribbean nation has made “an assessment of what is happening, outlining the absolutely correct and true reasons for what has begun.” and what has been prepared by the West for many years.

For his part, Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the state of relations and stated that “Russian-Cuban diplomatic political ties are complemented by the dynamic advancement of mutually beneficial bilateral collaboration in the economic, commercial and scientific-technical spheres.”

«Russia is a strategic partner of Cuba in the achievement of the National Plan for Social Economic Development and for the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he reiterated his condemnation of the unilateral sanctions of the United States and NATO against the Russian Federation, as well as the expansion of the bloc towards the Russian borders “which led to the current conflict in Europe” and advocated “for a diplomatic, constructive and realistic solution to the current crisis that guarantees security and sovereignty for all, as well as regional and international peace and stability.

The head of Cuban diplomacy also thanked Moscow for its rejection of the US administration’s sanctions.

“We will continue working together with Russia for a more just, democratic, multilateral world, based on international law,” said the minister.
