This morning, Mayor Federico Susbielles presided over the official ceremony on the occasion of Flag Day and to pay tribute to its creator, Manuel Belgrano, one of the central figures in Argentine history, whose passage to immortality occurred on June 20, 1820. .
Susbielles led the delivery of wreaths in Falucho and Av. Parchappe. The president of the Honorable Deliberative Council, Marité Gonard, councilors from different areas, officials, security forces and the armed forces, members of the religious community and a small group of neighbors participated in the event.
“The city has greatness and lineage. There is general agreement that a new monument to Manuel Belgrano is needed. Different actors were here and consensus should be sought so that it is done in a large square or park,” said the communal chief, in his talk with THE COMPASS 24.
In addition, he highlighted when asked by journalist Germán Sasso that “on the way to the Bicentennial is where different actors in culture and sports must be recognized, also in the case of this hero it is necessary to rethink his location, something that could be participatory among all community. That’s always good.”
“Bahía Blanca is the fruit of historical figures, when one looks at it through the prism of that past, one understands that (Julio Argentino) Roca is a central figure as was (Ramón) Estomba and the native peoples. There are several issues that are being claimed. The city must be trusted, involving all active forces,” he concluded.
It is worth remembering that at the beginning of his mandate, Héctor Gay had also expressed the need for a bust in keeping with the figure of Belgrano.
