The tropics will remain active even after Alberto moves inland over Mexico, according to forecasters, who are eyeing two more areas of possible tropical development in the coming days.

The most immediate threat is near the northern Bahamas to eastern Florida. It could “become a tropical depression before reaching the coast of northeastern Florida or Georgia on Friday,” the National Hurricane Center said.

Regardless of their development, coastal areas of northeastern Florida and Georgia can expect numerous showers on Friday and Saturday, along with gusty winds and strong surf.

Another tropical system could form in the same area of the Gulf of Mexico where Alberto originated. It will begin over southeastern Mexico and northern Central America on Friday and move into the Bay of Campeche on Saturday. The system could gradually become a tropical depression this weekend while over water.

Weather models show this system will follow a similar path to Alberto into northeastern Mexico early next week.
