The Industrial Production Index in Chile registered a year-on-year increase of 2.3% in May, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The factor that had the most influence was the rise in the Mining Production Index (IPMin), which showed a year-on-year increase of 6.9%as a consequence of the increased activity recorded in both metallic and non-metallic mining.
Meanwhile, the Electricity, Gas and Water Production Index (IPEGA) grew by 4.1% in 12 months due to the greater activity recorded in electricity, which increased 5.5%.
On the other hand, the Manufacturing Production Index (IPMan) showed a fall of 2.2%largely explained by the 1.8% year-on-year drop in food product production.
