The five opponents to the regime of Nicolás Maduro, who were asslated in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, have abandoned the country. Among the asylees were Pedro Urruchurtu, Humberto Villalobos, Claudia Macero, Omar González and Magalí Meda, all associated with the opposition leader María Corina Machado.
According to Argentine news information, Venezuela’s departure was held in the last hours, in a secret operation that involved the collaboration of the United States government and the Italian government. “The five are outside of Venezuela and in complete security, although not all are in the same nation,” said pleasure, who described the maneuver as a “escape operation.”
This group had been under diplomatic protection at the Argentine embassy since March 20, 2024, when they decided to seek refuge in the face of the threats and persecutions of the Venezuelan regime. So far, official confirmation of María Corina Machado or the Argentine Foreign Ministry has not been received regarding the outcome of this case.
This situation offers a significant impact on the political sphere of the region, especially for the administration of Javier Milei, who has reiterated the support for asylum and demanded guarantees to the Venezuelan government on several occasions.
