A new work of art exit from the inventiveness of the master Alejandro Obregón ha been unveiled. On Wednesday afternoon the Mural ‘Águila’that until today it was unknown, in the Universidad del Norte.
This mural, Made in 1963 he will now adorn the Bocas de Ash restaurantand will be integrated into the Obregón route of the Bank of the Republic.

Fresco painted, directly on a brick wall, the mural It has dimensions of 1.91 meters high by 2.60 meters wide, and its weight is approximately 150 kilos.
The restoration, transfer and installation of the work was carried out for more than two months. Since May 8, 2025 he will be permanently exhibited at the Bocas de Ash restaurant from the Mario Santo Domingo de Uninorte building, which receives more than 5000 visitors every month.
On the Campus of the University of the North the mural “Águila” already rests. Visitors of the Bocas de Ashes restaurant can enjoy it and learn about the story behind this work by Maestro Alejandro Obregón.
This initiative to move the work from Bavaria, where it was originally located, towards the University, seeks to exalt the legacy of one of the most relevant artists of Colombian art worldwide. In addition, joins other artistic initiatives promoted by Uninorte To convert your campus it is a living shelter from the Colombian Caribbean culture.
In the unveiling of the majestic mural, The Rector of the University of the North, Adolfo Meisel RocaHe explained that his work expresses a deep vocation of affection and was part of the group of coastal intellectuals who encouraged the cultural life of the city, the country and the world.
“In Barranquilla Alejandro Obregón’s public footprint is indelible. I invite you to make a brief tour of that path. Today, thanks to the generosity of the Santo Domingo Foundation, we add a new milestone in this cultural route, Heritage of Barranquilla through the 1963 Cienaguera eagia, ”he explained.
And he added that Obregón was a very hardworking and very disciplined man, of that he tells his immense work and the productivity he maintained for decades.
“I highlight it, because when the stereotypes that have been locked on our region are very harmful, they overlook, that our outstanding figures and that they bear the name of Colombia to the highest places, García Márquez, Shakira, Edgar Rentería, Lucho Díaz, Carlos Vives, Among others, they have succeeded with constant dedication to their trade, all being very disciplined. ”
For its part, Sergio Rincón, president of Bavariaa company that donated the mural because it was located in the Águila brewery, was commissioned to the artist by the company as well as in 1962 designed the Eagle beer poster for the Barranquilla Carnival.
“It is special for us to be here with you, delivering Obregón’s eagle to the site where he should have been. Since 1963 this eagle is in our Barranquilla brewery. There is a number of myths around what the eagle meant, what that conversation should have been for Alejandro Obregón to decide to make a mural inside a brewery and what the eagle represents for us within the company. ”
Since 2024 the Bank of the Republic leads the Obregón route, which consists of monthly tours for the works of the artist located in public and private spaces in Barranquilla.
These meetings are made with the accompaniment of the art historian Isabel Cristina Ramírez, a studious and curator of the work of Obregón, who is responsible for designing content to approximate the public to the works and generate reflections around the enormous poetic and conceptual wealth that this artistic heritage has for our region.

The route is part of five works in the city, to which the mural is now added “Eagle”.
