Xavi Pascual has been set out from the main spotlights of the European basketball but the Gavà coach continues to demonstrate its quality as a strategist since the distant St. Petersburg. This Monday, in the prolegomena of the first semifinal match between his team, the Zenit, and the Lokomotiv Kuban, Pascual received the trophy that accredits him as the best coach of the year in the VTB League, recognition he received from the former Russian international player Ilona Korsstin, current general director of the competition.

Apart from that award, Pascual could add another important notch to his record on Wednesday. After his team clearly exceeds the Lokomotiv in the first game of his semifinal series (the best of seven games) by 106-79, the Zenit faces the second match knowing that a new win, in addition to bringing him closer to the final, would complete the best victory streak ever achieved by a team in the VTB League. The Zenit equaled on Monday the 24 victories in a row that had as a record the CSKA Moscow since February 2023 and this Wednesday could establish a new plusmarca of the competition if it defeats the Lokomotiv again.
