Unicaja Foundation presents the book ‘The impact in Spain of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamón’ by Elías de Mateo on May 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Eduardo Ocón Room of the Unicaja Maria Cristina Foundation Room with free admission until capacity is completed.
The essay tries to deepen the impact that the famous archaeological discovery meant for our country, tracing the facets of Spanish life where the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamón left its mark. The work collects from the sensationalist dissemination of the supposed curse of the pharaoh, according to which most people linked to the discovery died early and mysterious; the photographic deployment and informative articles on the tomb of Tutankhamón in the Spanish magazines; The conferences, projections and publications on this issue that took place in our country; the organized tourist trips to visit the grave; the influence of discovery in literature, theater, cinema, female fashion and furniture and jewelry designs; In graphic humor. And finally, as the fascination with the figure of the young Egyptian pharaoh reaches to this day.
Elías de Mateo has a degree in Geography in History and Doctor in Contemporary History. Throughout the last four decades he has compatible with his teaching work with the research and dissemination activity. His investigations have focused, mainly, on the phenomenon of popular religiosity in general, and in Holy Week in particular, in the popular festivals, on the migratory movements, in the trajectory of various public services, in the analysis of religious countercurries and collective mentalities and in the social and political history of Andalusia in general and of Malaga in particular during the last two centuries. He is the author of seventy books and more than a hundred articles, presentations and communications to scientific and didactic congresses. He has organized numerous conferences cycles.
He has also entered the field of art history, curating important exhibitions. He has belonged to the Diocesan Commission of Artistic Heritage and, for several years, has served as director of the Municipal Heritage Museum of Malaga. Since its creation in 2010 it runs the Revelllo de Toro Museum. In 2011 he was elected member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo in which he currently serves as vice president. It also belongs as an academic corresponding to the Royal Academy of Sciences, beautiful letters and noble arts in Córdoba.

The sample, unpublished in our country, is composed of more than 500 original pieces between looksaccessories, unpublished photographs, fabrics, drawings, prototypes and prints of the different epochs of the designer, who highlight Versace’s extraordinary creativity and its impact on the fashion world.
The exhibition ‘Gianni Versace Retrospective’ can be visited until June 30 at the Unicaja Cultural Center in Malaga (Plaza del Obispo, 6) from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
