Voraz fire registered on Monday afternoon on a property located in the area of Villas del Mezquite, within the Morelos I neighborhood, in solitude of Graciano Sánchez, generated great mobilization of emergency bodies and caused alarm among the residents of the sector.
The incident was reported shortly after noon, in the immediate vicinity of the East Peripheral and the road to Rancho Nuevo, an area with vacant lots and dry vegetation, which favored the rapid propagation of fire.
The flames caused a dense column of black smoke that rose several meters and was visible from different parts of the municipality and even from areas of the Potosine capital, which warned passers -by and motorists who circulated nearby.
In response to the citizen report, elements of the Metropolitan Fire Department, as well as Municipal Civil Protection personnel, who worked coordinated to quell the fire and prevent it from extending to inhabited areas or adjacent properties.
So far no injured people have been reported, although some neighbors said they had experienced respiratory difficulties derived from smoke. It is not ruled out that some residents have had to evacuate momentarily by caution.
The authorities have not yet confirmed the origin of the fire, although it is not ruled out that it has been caused by the burning of garbage or grasslands, a common but highly risky practice in this season of heat and drought.
Civil Protection urged citizens to avoid lighting fire on vacant lots or throwing cigarette butts, since high temperatures and wind considerably increase fire risk.
Finally, the emergency bodies remained in the area to make cooling work and monitor that there would be no fire reactivation. Research to clarify the causes of the incident are ongoing.
We will continue to inform.
