Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported Thursday that there are already 18 detained for his alleged involvement in forest fires recorded on the outskirts of Jerusalem and that have left more than 5,000 hectares calcined at the moment.
Netanyahu, who has indicated that at the moment the clear cause of the fires is unknown, pointed out that “material damage and nature have also occurred.” “It is not a simple something,” he clarified, according to statements collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
-However, he has clarified that one of the detainees has been accused of provoking the fire. “At this time there are 18 people arrested for their possible involvement, of which one of them was caught with the least in the dough,” he said.
In this sense, he has been optimistic in the fight to end the flames. “We will also face this challenge until successful,” he said, before adding that the government is “doing everything possible” to turn off the flames and “rehabilitate the destroyed areas.”
Firefighters continue with their control and extinction of the flames in at least eleven locations on the outskirts of Jerusalem, where seven cities remain completely evacuated, as explained by the Firefighters and Rescue Service of Israel.
