Under the guidance of Venezuelan Jockey Junior Alvarado, the specimen Sovereignty won the 151 of Kentucky’s derby on Saturday.
The foal came strongly to the last curve and surpassed the favorite Journalism in the final stretch of a played race on the mud at the Churchill Downs racecourse (Louisville, Kentucky).
Alvarado, 38, held his first victory in the most emblematic test of the American equestrian.
“This means everything to me, I knew I had good options,” said the winner in an interview about his horse.

Journalism, who presented himself with a streak of four consecutive victories, ended secondly under the guidance of the Italian Umberto Rispoli while Baeza, with the Frenchman Flavien Prat al Lomo, was third.
The race inaugurated the so -called Triple Corona, which will continue in Preakness Stakes (Baltimore) on May 17 and will close at Belmont Stakes (New York) on June 7.
