The imposition of tariffs between the United States and China will have A direct impact on the price of imported products in Venezuelaincluding footwear, according to the president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Footwear (Cavecal), Tony Di Benedetto, during an interview with the station Radio Union This Saturday, May 3.
“Imported products with the theme of tariffs will be a bit more expensive, they will come a little more expensive”said Di Benedetto, noting that this situation will represent a considerable challenge for the national footwear industry, which has experienced a decline in recent years.
The union representative also emphasized that the recovery of the footwear market will not be an immediate process, but a “Work that would be done little by little.” Their statements reflect the concern of the sector against the dynamics of international trade and its possible impact on the Venezuelan economy.
Chinese response to US tariffs
On April 9, China responded to the new tariffs imposed by the United States with 84% surcharges to US products from April 10, intensifying the escalation of the commercial war between the two main world economies.
“The additional customs tariff rate (…) will rise from 34% to 84%” From Thursday at 12 noon (04h01 GMT), the Chinese Ministry of Commerce reported in a statement.
This measure occurred a few hours after the entry into force of new tariffs by the United States to almost 60 countries, reaching in the case of China an accumulated rate of 104%.
