The “insecurity” in Vitoria has become the great argument of the Popular Party to attack the PSE-PNV government and, once again, … The popular spokesman, Iñaki García Calvo, has influenced the need to take measures in this regard. And he has done this Monday by proposing the implementation of “an urgent security plan” for the city and demanding to the government coalition that “stop denying this situation.”
«Vitoria has a security problem and it is important that we assume that it is no longer the sure city that was. You have to stop denying this reality. There are stabbing, nights of robberies in shops and premises, confrontations with firearms, robberies with violence, in changing rooms … Since 2019 the number of crimes has increased by 7% and that is why we propose an urgent security plan, ”said García Calvo.
The PP states that this objective has to be “a priority” and has put on the table a series of measures, such as “closing the conflict with the Local Police”, an “urgent reinforcement of the presence of agents in streets and neighborhoods” – with more uniformed in the night shift and on weekends – and the surveillance of staging points and white weapons controls. To do this, he has claimed that the workforce has more members to cover current vacancies and face the coming retirement. He has also requested “a greater presence of Ertzaintza” in Vitoria.
“If they don’t, we will do it”
In the same way, he has raised a “reorganization of the Local Police” mainly in “specialized units” and a “reinforcement of the prevention and support group” to intervene in serious crimes and also of the Judicial Police, for a better investigation of crimes. ” He has also advocated a more “specialized and professional” body through a training plan and more material resources “to deal with new types of crime. And to deal with all this, he has demanded “more budget in the department of careful security.” García Calvo has also requested a security plan in the fight against illegal occupation in commercial premises, markets and homes. «Security must be a priority in our city. And if the government does not, we send a message: we will be the ones who do it when we arrive at the Mayor’s Office in 2027, ”said the PP spokesman.
