National Police agents have arrested two young people aged 20 and 16 in the municipality of Arrecife, as alleged responsible for a series of fires that affected the Lanzarote capital during the months of February, March and April 2025. These facts caused a remarkable social alarm due to the repetition of spotlights in different streets of the municipality, mainly in central areas, where both urban furniture and parked vehicles were affected.
Once the situation was controlled, the investigations were assumed by the Judicial Police group in coordination with Scientific Police. From the beginning, the indications pointed out that it was intentional fires, discarding motivations linked to threats or other serious crimes.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Local Police of Arrecife, through the Video-Vigilance Chambers of shops and traffic, as well as citizen collaboration, the two involved were identified, who acted on specific tours and were seen moving in an electric skateboard, which facilitated their flight from the place.
The arrests were carried out on May 2 after a laborious reconstruction of the itinerary and physical characteristics of the suspects. Both lack police records.
After his arrest, the greatest was brought to court, being released with charges. The minor, on the other hand, was delivered to the Minor Prosecutor’s Office of Las Palmas.
The motivations behind these acts have not yet been clarified, although it is presumed that they could be related to the search for notoriety, since the authors avoided remaining in the affected areas after causing the fire
