Vietnam commemorates the 50 years of Saigon taking
Vietnam organized a great military parade through the streets of Ho Chi Minh (Antigua Saigón) to commemorate that half a century of the “Saigon Liberation” is fulfilled.
On April 30, 1975, the Northern Communist Troops entered the Presidential Palace of Vietnam in the South and ended the war. Two years before the final defeated, the withdrawal of the US troops of Vietnam condemned the South Army to a safe defeat against the communist north.
The war devastated Vietnam, killed millions of its inhabitants and cost the lives of 58,000 American soldiers.
The leader of Vietnam, To Lam, highlighted in a speech the transformation of the country “from a nation destroyed by war” to a magnet “for foreign investment.”
“After 50 years of reunification (…) Our country has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges to achieve historical achievements, creating the base, potential, position and international prestige we have today,” said the general secretary of the Vietnam Communist Party and top leader of the country.
