The talk ‘A look at the disability’ was provided by the head of people with disabilities, Luis Giraudo; Inés Antúnez and teachers of the Secretariat. The objective was to sensitize the educational community about the various obstacles that people with disabilities face daily. In turn, the proposal sought to promote empathy to achieve a more inclusive society.
The director of the educational establishment, Carolina Ávila, informed that it has a registration of 102 students, of which nine of the secondary and five of the primary have disabilities such as TEA, Down Syndrome, maturation delay and speech and language development disorders.
In addition to the concepts of disability, in their different classes (cognitive, visceral and motor), the boys toured a space with bandaged eyes, guided by a single partner, in order to experience the loss of vision and the importance of accompaniment. In the auditory experience, they transmitted a chain phrase to observe how the message was distorted and highlighted the communicative difficulties that deaf people deal with.
Giraudo thanked the work that managers and educators carry out in the institution and the commitment of the Toma Disability Council, which supports and encourages actions to achieve a more sensitive and inclusive society for people with disabilities.
